Copenhagen Theatre Circle proudly presents, the 2027 Spring production of:
By Henrik Ibsen
Adapted and Directed by Jakob Rasmussen
Dates: February 24th – 28th, 2027
An Enemy of the People is a modern adaptation of Norwegian playwright Henrik Ibsen’s timeless political drama about the conflict between moral conviction and economic prosperity, and the choices we make when faced with doing what’s right versus doing what’s profitable.
Set against the backdrop of today’s rapidly evolving media landscape, this adaptation examines how social media, political interests, and the relentless pursuit of influence and attention, can manipulate, distort, and ultimately bury the truth.
It is an urgent, contemporary reflection on the current state of our modern society.
“What does the destruction of the community matter, if it lives on lies!”
When a local doctor discovers that the water supplying his town's new lucrative spa and wellness center is contaminated with harmful chemicals, he sets out to expose the truth and protect his community, only to be met with opposition from those he least expects. What begins as a simple matter of public health, quickly spirals into a bitter political struggle, where the doctor must put his own beliefs and principles to the test.
It is a gripping tale about the battle between truth versus self-interest, the corrupting influence of power, and the dangerous dynamic between the media and public opinion.
An Enemy of the People challenges and confronts the audience with the uncomfortable questions:
Who is the true enemy of the people?
Is it the doctor?
Is it the establishment?
Or is it you?
