Take Me to Church: The Drag Service Body Movement, Characterization, and Vocal Tone/ Rage for Drag Performers Workshop
This is our first workshop of three and will last approximately 3-hour focusing on body movement, characterization, and vocal tone/range for drag show performers with some taught lecture and breakout group work. It begins with an introduction and icebreaker activities, allowing participants to share their drag personas and engage in movement and improvisation games. The first segment covers body movement, including the psychology of gendered movements, techniques for various styles, and applying these movements to characters. The characterization section emphasizes building a persona, creating backstories, and embodying characters through physicality and emotion, with participants showcasing their work. The final segment addresses vocal tone and range, teaching techniques for voice care, modulation, and character-specific vocal expression, ending with a recap and Q&A session.
Please note that we have opened these workshops up to others in the CTC community and those who have expressed interest in learning drag, thus we welcome you to share with anyone who is interested in attending.
One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest
After being convicted of a petty crime, a charming, rebellious rogue named McMurphy contrives to serve his short sentence in an airy mental institution rather than in a prison. This, he soon learns, was a mistake. He immediately clashes with the authoritarian head nurse, a fierce martinet named Nurse Ratched. Despite Ratched's strict reign, McMurphy quickly takes over the yard, leading others out of introversion, staging a revolt so that they can see the World Series on television, and arranging a rollicking midnight party with liquor and women. But McMurphy's brash insubordination has its consequences; Ratched ultimately triumphs by subjecting McMurphy to a frontal lobotomy.

The Actor’s Voice: a workshop for all abilities with Fanny Paananen
Voice can release an actor. The voice is the bridge between the inner and outer worlds and, if the voice is free, it can reflect the inner world with great accuracy, revealing each actor’s unique response to character, situation and text” -Barbara Houseman
To use the voice properly can require a lot of thorough work, that’s why I have gathered the best from each technique I learned during my acting training as well as researched further into how best to acquire a relaxed, powerful, and well-working voice. My approach to voice training is a mixture of different techniques including the Alexander technique, Fitzmaurice voicework, and Barbara Houseman’s teachings.
